Emissaries of Peace ends successful Smithsonian run, will return to Cherokee Museum on Jan. 3.

On Nov. 25, the exhibit “Emissaries of Peace: The 1762 Cherokee and British Delegations” ended its enormously successful run at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. The display was seen by hundreds of thousands of people at the Washington, D.C. museum, and now it will be dismantled for its return trip to Cherokee.

The Emissaries of Peace exhibit is planning for a Jan. 3 re-opening at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian where it was originally on display last year.

Cherokee loses one of its biggest tourism icons

He was a fixture and a constant in Cherokee like the Oconoluftee River. If you visited Cherokee over the last five decades, you probably saw him, or even had your picture taken with him. The iconic “Chief Henry” Lambert passed away on Nov. 20 of lung cancer. He was 72.

News & Notes from Around Cherokee

If you are in or near the Cherokee area on Saturday, Dec. 1, be sure to attend the town’s annual Christmas Parade. The theme of this year’s parade is “Hollywood Holiday.” The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and will wind through downtown Cherokee.

If you wish to enter as a parade participant, entries are due at the Cherokee Welcome Center by 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30. If you have any questions, call the welcome center at 1-800-438-1601.
