Don’t Miss the Third Annual Big Rigs Antique Truck Show this Week

The Big Rigs Antique Truck Show comes to the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds this weekend, on October 17–19. Everyone is welcome - owners, vendors, and admirers get a chance to share their love of the big rigs and show off their trucks. More than 2,200 spectators and 150 trucks are expected this year. The show features models from the antique and working class, including pickup trucks, semis, dump trucks, and more.

Classic Cars Cruise Into Cherokee

What do you get when you combine the most scenic drive in North Carolina and more than 500 of the nation’s hottest looking classic cars? The highly anticipated, “Cruise the Smokies” Fall Cherokee Rod Run. More than 3,000 car enthusiasts will turn out for the Southeast’s premiere Rod Run from October 31 – November 2, at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds. Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday.

Qualla Open Air Indian Art Market Showcases Ancient Basketweaving Techniques

Basket weaving is one of the oldest known Native American crafts, and the Cherokee double woven baskets are the oldest form of basketry in the Southeast. Before the Cherokee removal, basket weaving was an integral part of the women's role in the tribe, and baskets were used to hold corn, squash, beans and other food crops.

Cherokee Oconaluftee Indian Village Closes for Season

This month will be your last chance to visit the Oconaluftee Indian Village and witness traditional Cherokee dancers outfitted in native dress performing centuries-old dances, such as the friendship, bear, and quail dances in the Village Square. Performances commence on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Village closes for the season on Saturday, October 18, so don’t miss watching the action unfold.
