Get in gear for Cherokee’s Fall Rod Run

The 2008 “Cruise the Smokies” Fall Rod Run will be held Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds in Cherokee. The Rod Run – one of two held annually, features hundreds of classic and customized automobiles built before 1972. This year’s event is expected to draw 800 cars. The mountains in the background and miles of surrounding roads, including the famous Blue Ridge Parkway, make for good driving and beautiful views. In addition the many attractions in Cherokee make the Rod Run fun for the whole family.

AniKituhwa Warriors Reenact the Delegation of 1777 at Colonial Williamsburg

The Warriors of AniKituhwa Dance Group performed a special reenactment of the Delegation of 1777 at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, on October 25–26. In the mid 1700s, the Cherokees sent fourteen delegations to Williamsburg to seek council with Virginia leaders. On July 20, 1777, a historic peace treaty was signed between the Cherokee, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Eastern Band Supports Mobile Kidney Screenings

The National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina recently unveiled its new Kidneyville Cruiser at Harrah’s Casino & Hotel. Harrah’s is sponsoring the mobile health unit on behalf of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. “We have partnered with NKFNC because this is an issue that affects so many individuals in our community. Our goal is to help improve health and longevity through education,” said Joyce Dugan, Executive Director of External Communications for Cherokee Harrah’s.
