Fall Rod Run Speeds into Cherokee with “Colorful” Family Fun

Cherokee’s annual fall Cruise the Smokies Rod Run is one of the Southeast’s premier events for car enthusiasts. This year’s event is set for Nov. 2–4 at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds. Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday. Spectator admission is $5 each day of the event and free for children six and under. The event is sponsored by Cherokee Travel and Tourism.

Last Chance to Experience the Oconaluftee Indian Village

If you have always wondered what life was like in Cherokee back around 1750, you have one final opportunity this year to immerse yourself in this authentic cultural experience. The Oconaluftee Indian Village will close for the 2007 season on Sunday, Nov. 4, so time is running out to see how Cherokees lived more than 250 years ago. The Village reflects both the peaceful quality of the past and the challenges of Cherokee life in the mid-1700s, a time of rapid cultural change prompted by sustained Euro-American contact.

95th Annual Indian Fair A Huge Success

The fireworks concluding the 95th annual Indian Fair in Cherokee seemed appropriate. The pyrotechnics, as colorful as the fall foliage, ended a nearly week-long celebration of Cherokee heritage, commemoration, and fun. The result was an extremely successful Indian Fair with everyone looking forward to the 96th edition. It is estimated that nearly 7,000 people attended the five-day fair.
